About the role
Epiphany School seeks a part-time Health & Fitness specialist teacher to join the health and fitness team and collaborate with teacher teams to plan and implement the curriculum. In addition to teaching, this person will communicate proactively with students, their families, and colleagues, contribute positively to the overall school culture while fulfilling duties as assigned (recess and lunch supervision, field trips, etc.), and participate in professional learning opportunities at Epiphany School and in the greater education community.
An ideal candidate for this role brings physical education, kinesiology, health and fitness, and/or related expertise, has an ability to clearly explain exercises, techniques, and health concepts with the ability to adapt to the needs of different students, can inspire and motivate elementary aged students to engage in their fitness journey, is knowledgeable about curriculum and program design and child development, brings strong collaboration skills, growth mindset, strong materials and classroom management skills, and a commitment to fostering a love of health and fitness.
This is a part-time, exempt, academic year, faculty position reporting to the Lower Elementary Division Head.
Location
The person in this role must work in-person on the school campus in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Epiphany School does not cover or reimburse relocation costs and/or expenses.
Standard school operating hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 – 4:00pm. Part-time schedule to be determined.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and teach engaging Health & Fitness lessons across grade-levels aligned with the school’s curriculum and developmental needs of students.
- Assess and evaluate student progress, providing timely feedback and completing progress reports as scheduled.
- Demonstrate cultural competence in teaching practices and interactions with students, colleagues, and families.
- Stay current with research and best practices in physical education and child development, adapting methods and curriculum as needed.
- Collaborate with partner Health & Fitness teacher, grade-level teams, specialty teachers, and staff to integrate physical education within the broader school experience.
- Contribute to a collaborative and caring school community, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- Coordinate and participate in special school events, such as Walk & Bike to School Day, Cross Country team, and other related events.

- Assess student progress and maintain effective record keeping procedures.
- Attend specialist team and faculty meetings as scheduled.
- Provide recess supervision as scheduled.
- Participate in the school community, including professional learning, service learning, and community events.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
Typical Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- B.A. or B.S. in Physical Education or related field.
- Successful experience teaching elementary and preschool age students.
- Knowledge of elementary physical education curriculum.
- Teaching Certification and endorsement in field preferred
- Demonstrated interest in educating elementary school students.
- Ability to multi-task and to maintain professionalism in a creative and changing environment.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills; strong presentation skills.
- Experience and comfort working in a Microsoft environment including MS Office.
- Experience and comfort integrating instructional technology into classroom practice.
- Must be collaborative, motivated, organized and process oriented.
- Meet all Epiphany School health and safety training requirements.
DCYF Compliance:
- Ability to obtain the following (the school will cover all associated costs to obtain)
- Portable background check
- STARS 30-hour child-care basics training
- Proof of a negative TB test
- Proof of MMR and COVID-19 immunization
Compensation & Benefits
The starting salary range for a full-time faculty role is between $66,222 and $129,395 based on years of experience, education, and professional development hours. The full-time salary will be pro-rated based on the 0.5 full-time equivalency (FTE).
While this role is not eligible to receive the full benefits package, these benefits are still included:
