About Bertschi School
Bertschi School, founded in 1975, is a Washington State approved elementary school serving students in grades pre-kindergarten to fifth. We are an accredited member of the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).

Position General Description
Bertschi School is seeking a progressive educator to lead the school’s art program beginning in August 2026.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in art, elementary education,  or related field
Master’s degree and teaching certificate preferred
Demonstrated effectiveness as an art teacher with a minimum of two years of experience teaching elementary art
Experience in curriculum development and collaborative planning
In-depth knowledge of standards and innovative practices in elementary art education
Experience teaching diverse student populations and partnering with  families

Responsibilities
Design and implement Bertschi’s art curriculum for students in kindergarten  to fifth grade
Ensure that students learn about a variety of artists and artistic techniques from historically underrepresented people in culturally respectful ways
Inspire creativity and skill development through project design for students
Teach elements of art (line, color, shape, texture, space, value, form) and principles of design (balance, contrast, emphasis, etc.).
Instruct students in a variety of media: drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking, ceramics, digital art, etc.
Adapt lessons for different age groups and learners
Develop partnerships and collaborate with the school’s teachers to support interdisciplinary art curriculum
Participate fully in the life of the school community
Commitment to continued professional development
Prepare and order materials for lessons and manage the budget
Develop and execute a school wide art show for a week in May
