Independent School Admissions

Get to Know Us!

POCIS (People of Color in Independent Schools) Northwest is a consortium of independent schools, and it exists to help people of color thrive in independent schools. Students of color can be found in all POCIS Northwest schools throughout our region — and we hope that more students and families will join us!

If you’re interested in exploring POCIS Northwest schools, and learning if one or more of them might be a good fit for your child, visit our member school page to learn more.

Many Schools, Common Value

The NWAIS-accredited schools of POCIS Northwest have distinct personalities, teach a variety of grade ranges and employ curricula and teaching methods that align with their missions. What we have in common, though, is a belief in diversity, equity, and inclusion. We feel confident that you’ll find a good match (perhaps several!) for your child.

What Parents Say

“Our experience has been outstanding. Our kids have benefited from teachers highly attuned to their academic needs; both challenging them and supporting them. As parents, we have appreciated the individual attention to our kids and responsiveness to our questions. I think it's important to visit in order to appreciate the joy that bubbles from the kids…”

Villa Academy Parent

“The school has helped grow our student from an intelligent and empathetic learner in 6th grade to a force for change in the world in 12th grade.”

University Prep Parent

“The school encouraged our children to soar intellectually and creatively. Teachers responded to each as an individual with unique interests and abilities, offering appropriate challenges and support.”

Eton School Parent

“This school is different. It’s raising young leaders. And what amazes me is that this knowledge that they are giving and teaching the students does not end there. They are teaching these kids what to do with the knowledge. I tell people that we are lucky to be part of this school. It truly is special.”

Giddens School Parent

“SCDS has been exemplary in many ways, especially through the culture of divergent thinking, inquiry-based curriculum, and open-ended projects, assignments, and investigations.”
