The Evergreen School, an independent school serving highly capable students in preschool through 8th grade, is currently accepting applications for a BIG Lab Teaching Assistant.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Build Imagine Grow (BIG) Lab Teaching Assistant supports the Creativity and Innovation Coordinator, technology teachers, and students in the daily operations of The Evergreen School BIG Lab—a dynamic space that fosters innovation, design, prototyping, and creative problem-solving across all grade levels (PS–8).
The BIG Lab TA works alongside the lead teacher to help students and faculty engage in hands-on, interdisciplinary projects, including building interactive exhibits, laser cutting components, prototyping scientific tools, creating green screen videos, and exploring electronics and robotics. This role ensures the BIG Lab operates safely and efficiently, equipment is maintained, and all users receive guidance and support for their projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lab Support and Student EngagementAssist the Creativity and Innovation Coordinator and lead teachers in facilitating student and teacher projects across all grade levels
Provide guidance and support to students as they explore tools, technologies, and materials, ensuring safe and effective use of equipment
Lead or support small-group instruction and hands-on learning experiences within the lab and classroom settings
Step in to assist with teaching, supervision, or short-term classroom coverage when needed
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues to support successful project outcomes
Prepare the lab space and materials for scheduled activities, adapting setups for different grade levels and project types
Support the Creativity and Innovation Coordinator to supervise and maintain EC Little Labs and drop-in spaces on the main campus
Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all users
Equipment and Materials ManagementMaintain and troubleshoot BIG Lab equipment, including 3D printers, laser cutters, electronics, and other fabrication tools
Organize and manage lab materials and consumables, monitoring stock and assisting with reordering as needed
Learn new tools, technologies, and software applications to support the evolving needs of students and faculty
Additional ResponsibilitiesPartner with technology teachers and other faculty to support student learning and project-based initiatives
Collaborate with the Creativity and Innovation Coordinator to implement lab improvements, new projects, and curricular support
Assist with special projects, events, and extracurricular activities as needed
Provide flexible support across the school program, including occasional substitute coverage or instructional assistance as assigned
Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:

Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent. A college degree or currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in education is preferred.
Previous experience working with children ages 3-14 (e.g., teaching, student teaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or classroom support).
Experience in STEM, creative fabrication, or hands-on educational environments is a plus
Skills and AbilitiesCompetence or willingness to learn basic maintenance of BIG Lab equipment (3D printers, laser cutters, etc.)
Developing skills in electronics, microcontrollers, woodworking, sewing, and other fabrication tasks
Familiarity with or willingness to learn software such as 3D modeling, Arduino, and audio/video editing
Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Ability to support students and adult colleagues in hands-on learning activities
Personal AttributesPatience, clear communication, and a positive attitude when working with children and colleagues
Collaborative and flexible, thriving in dynamic, student-centered, and project-based environments
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment
Working Conditions:
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds in connection with job duties such as assisting with classroom setup or moving materials.
Ability to stand, sit, and move comfortably throughout classrooms and school hallways for extended periods.
Ability to climb stairs, navigate uneven surfaces, and escort students as needed between locations within and outside school buildings.
Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather.
Evening and weekend work may be required at times
Position Details:
This is a salaried, non-exempt (overtime eligible), 1.0 FTE full-time, benefits-eligible position beginning in late August 2026. This position follows a 10-month schedule, paid from September to June. This position is based on a 37.5 hour week, and the salary range is $44,100 to $52,185 per year, depending on years of experience.
