Located in West Seattle’s Arbor Heights neighborhood, the school serves over 400 students from preschool through eighth grade. Westside is currently seeking an HR Generalist to join its team, contributing to the school’s operations and community-centric values.

We are seeking a candidate who is a team player and who is able to support the school’s focus on diversity, equity, and belonging.  The successful candidate will participate fully in the life of the school, attending in-service days, meetings, and school celebrations, and uphold the mission, vision, and values of Westside School.

Reports to: Director of Finance and Operations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

What You’ll Do:

  • Create and maintain a school-wide culture characterized by highly engaged staff, students, and faculty, high expectations, joyful learning, personal wellness, and a strong sense of community
  • Partner with the leadership team to align HR strategies with the organization’s goals
  • Support employee development through performance reviews, coaching, and inclusive onboarding sessions
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies, maintaining personnel records, and monitoring HR legislation and best practices
  • Ensure HR policies and processes are in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements and best practices
  • Maintain employee personnel files and update employee handbooks as needed.
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment processes with a focus on developing and implementing diversity recruitment strategies
  • Monitor employee retention rates, gathering feedback to address concerns and needs, particularly for BIPOC and marginalized employees
  • Oversee leave management, including leave requests, agreements, and compliance with policies.
    Represent the school at professional associations and contributing to daily school operations as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable professional experience
    3+ years’ experience in human resources, non-profit and/or education industry experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience or understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, particularly in a recruitment context
  • Commitment to professionalism and ability to work with detailed information with a high degree of accuracy. and confidentiality
  • Skilled in handling sensitive conversations with tact, resolve and confidentiality
  • Collaborative team player with excellent communication, time management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Google Suite, and database and email experience required

 

Compensation and Benefits: This is a full-time position. The annual salary range for this position is $80-85k based on the experience and credentials. Westside School offers a comprehensive benefits package including competitive retirement plans, insurance offerings and generous paid time off.
